Birthday Party for the Homeless

For many homeless men and women, birthdays and holidays aren't happy occasions.  But thanks to volunteers from Fred Meyer, hundreds of our homeless guests enjoyed a birthday celebration this week.

In addition to cake and ice cream, each man and woman received a birthday card sent in by friends of Portland Rescue Mission.  Many cards included a handwritten message of encouragement and love.

Fred Meyer volunteers, headed up by Karen Hudnall, provided decorations and served meals with a smile.  In addition to the annual February birthday bash, Karen's group returns to our Burnside Shelter on the second Wednesday of every month to serve meals throughout the year.

Thank you Karen, Fred Meyer volunteers, and to all those who sent cards.  Thank you for showing hurting people that they aren't forgotten.
